Cranham Common Explorers – John Muir Award

This summer, Into Nature CIC will be working with Cranham Common Trust and Cranham School to deliver an exciting programme of school and family events on the Common.

In addition to two school explorer sessions, local families are being offered the opportunity to join us to discover, explore and conserve the wildlife of the wonderful Cranham Common and share your learning with the community. Get the whole family involved and work towards the John Muir Award, a scheme that encourages people of all backgrounds to connect with, enjoy and care for wild places in an inclusive and non-competitive way.

Each of our hands-on, playful sessions will be a mixture of different activities, from bug hunting and natural crafts to using your senses to connect to nature and giving wildlife a helping hand. You will also receive a handbook with inspiring activities that you can do in your own time.

Sessions are suitable for families with children between 4 and 11 years (older and younger siblings welcome); you will be playing, learning and working in your family group, so the more family members you bring, the quicker you will reach the hours needed to achieve the Family Award (25 hours  – for example, a family of four attending all 4 of the 2 hour sessions will have clocked up 32 hours). Please be aware that you might need to do more activities in your own time to achieve the award  (the sessions led by Into Nature CIC and the handbook you receive will provide ideas and guidance as to how you can do this).

This programme (both the school sessions and the family sessions) is funded by Cranham Common Trust and delivered in partnership with Cranham Common Trust, Cranham School, Natural England and Into Nature CIC.

Our four Cranham Common Explorers sessions will take place on Saturdays, on
