About

Little Owls is a weekly group which was set up in March 2014 as an outdoor alternative to conventional village hall parent and toddler groups. It gives parents/carers and their children the opportunity to regularly meet, explore and play in a wonderful, secluded woodland setting.

The sessions are a mixture of guided activities and free play for which we have a range of resources on hand. We do mud play, walks, stories, wild art, bug hunting and generally having a lovely, relaxing time surrounded by nature – good for body and soul, for children and grown ups alike.

The Ebworth Centre

The National Trust’s Ebworth Estate is a very special place. Hidden away in a spot that can be justifiably classified as ‘out in the sticks’ – but still readily accessible from Stroud, Gloucester, Cheltenham and Cirencester – it boasts some of the best features the Cotswolds have to offer: beautiful beech woodlands, organic pastures grazed by sheep and cattle, and lovely honey-coloured farm buildings.

Our site is the Shrubbery, a ‘small but perfectly formed’ woodland area all set up for playing and exploring. In autumn 2018  the National Trust and Sheepscombe School installed an amazing retractable tarp, providing us with shelter from the elements when needed.

For more information about the Ebworth Centre have a look at the National Trust website.

Directions

From Stroud:

Take the B4070 towards Birdlip. Go through Slad and past the signs for Bull’s Cross and Sheepscombe. Once you have passed the Foston’s Ash pub on the right you will pass a small cluster of houses on the left – slow down. Just after the next (single) house, on the left again, is the entrance to the Ebworth drive.

From Birdlip:

On the B4070 towards Stroud, pass the turning to Cranham. Shortly after, watch out for the single house on the right, the Ebworth drive is just in front.

Once on the drive:

Please keep to the speed limit of 30 mph and watch out for bumps and pot holes! Then take the right hand fork and slowly follow the track around the little woodland (our activity site) and into the Ebworth Centre.

At the end of the track turn right and our designated car park is on the left hand side. Please only park there and in neat rows – we need to block each other in.
